Through this partnership, Rural Youth and Rural Alive and Well are set to bring Agfest to life with Gumboot Day on Friday 8 May, leading into the Gumboot Parade at 12pm in the Tas Petroleum Central Arena. Patrons are encouraged to pull on their boots, get creative with decorations, and join in the fun, with fantastic prizes up for grabs. It’s a lively, hands-on way to spark conversations around mental health, break down stigma, and connect with support - because sometimes the best way forward is simply walking through the mud together.
Rural Youth Tasmania State President Amber Bramich believes the partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting those who live and work in rural areas.
“Rural Youth hopes this partnership helps to raise mental health awareness for those living and/or working rurally - or simply for those who wear boots to work,” Ms Bramich said.
“We have found RAW’s support over the past few years to be invaluable - from speaking with our Agfest committee, to being boots on the ground amongst our clubs, and providing one-on-one support where it’s needed most.”
Rural Alive and Well CEO Lee Whiteley said the partnership and upcoming Agfest presence would help celebrate and support the people at the heart of rural Tasmania.
“Boots on the Ground is about recognising the everyday people who are the backbone of rural Tasmania,” Mr Whiteley said.
“From farmers and volunteers to families and young leaders, these are the individuals who quietly show up, support one another, and keep their communities thriving. Through this campaign, we’re proud to celebrate their stories, while also shining a light on the importance of mental health and wellbeing for those who give so much.”
“We’re inviting Tasmanians to share their own ‘Boots on the Ground’ stories and a photo of the boots that carry them through their work and communities, because every pair tells a powerful story. We’re also excited to bring these stories to life at Agfest, where people can connect with the campaign and see firsthand the strength and spirit of rural Tasmania.”
Rural Youth looks forward to working alongside Rural Alive and Well throughout Agfest 2026, ensuring mental wellbeing remains a visible and valued part of Tasmania’s premier agricultural event.
