Primary Employers Tasmania and the Tasmanian Pork Industry are excited to announce that applications for the 2024 Agri Development Scholarship are now open! This annual scholarship provides a valuable opportunity for Tasmanians passionate about agriculture to develop their skills, knowledge, and expertise, with a focus on improving best practices within the state’s agricultural sector. The scholarship offers a $5,000 grant and aims to support personal growth and professional development in primary industries.

This scholarship is ideal for anyone with an interest in advancing their career in agriculture, whether they’re working on the land, involved in agricultural education, or looking to bring new ideas to Tasmania’s farming community. Three funding streams are available to suit a wide range of interests and goals:

  1. Attend an event or enrol in a course of your choice: Use the funds to participate in a training program or event that aligns with your career aspirations or area of expertise.
  2. Attend an event selected by Primary Employers Tasmania and the Tasmanian Pork Industry Association: This option provides a chance to participate in a specialised, industry-endorsed event chosen by the scholarship sponsors.
  3. Host or facilitate a guest speaker or event in Tasmania: Organise a primary industries function or bring an expert speaker to Tasmania to share insights and knowledge with local farmers, agricultural professionals, and industry stakeholders.

Previous Scholarship Success Stories

Past recipients have used the scholarship to access top-tier training and development opportunities. For example, winners have enrolled in management courses at institutions like Rabobank and Marcus Oldham College. Others, such as members of the Tasmanian Agricultural Education Network, attended conferences interstate to enhance their teaching of agricultural subjects.

TAPG (Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group) used the scholarship to bring renowned social researcher Michael McQueen to Tasmania. McQueen delivered a keynote presentation on the challenges and opportunities of employing Generation Z in agriculture, providing invaluable insights to farmers across the state.
